Transubstantiation

August 18, 2006

sometime prior
one with no home spent the life allowed picking plastic
from gutters
from trash
from one another.

the plastic sold
rebeaten
formed again into the
bags you now see

on trees
shredded by gales spinning on barbed wire
topping the fences
designed to keep the now long dead
one without a home
out.

willowy sack remains
writhing wraiths
spirits of the homeless
twist in the winds in winter and spring
stripped of styrene lustre
by sun moisture

the remains of the souls that plucked plastic
from gutters bins
plastics sold give pennies
lucre for wine meat biscuits

keeping life flowing
plastic stealing souls
pulsed into the spirits dancing on
gusts

in your alley
in the streets and gutters
where the ones without homes
gave life for plastic to get some wine
